Dear Coaches,

New this year we will introduce our “Ka Mahalo” Sportsmanship Award! One program at each Aloha event will be selected by our staff for exemplifying the Spirit of the Islands—this gym will be rewarded with a 2’ tall custom one-of-a-kind Tiki!

Our staff will be looking for programs that:

1) Show their Island Spirit by incorporating a Hawaiian theme

2) Treat all other competitors with kindness and respect.

Mahalo means “living in a way of thanks” and Ka Mahalo means “respect but with appreciation”. This award will be our opportunity to show our sincere appreciation to the program that understands we are all Ohana (family) in the cheer community. This award will be our chance to reward the program that sincerely wishes other competitors Laki Maika’i (good luck) because they understand that we are all ripples in the ocean of life and that by supporting each other we can become waves of goodwill that will impact our sport. This award will be our opportunity to recognize one program that understands that victory is sweet, but that learning to treat others with kindness and respect in the heat of competition, is sweeter.

For those of you coming to an Aloha event, please take the time to: 1) meet with your teams to explain our Ka Mahalo award, 2) become intentional about building excellent character and good sportsmanship, and 3) catch the Aloha Spirit.

A Hui Hou (until we meet again),

The Aloha Staff
